Keith Ryan, 34, claims to have been beaten by police |
Keith Ryan, 34, of Toronto is an office administrator that is currently suing two police officers and one parking enforcement officer for 2.3 million dollars after what he claims as a brutal beating. This incident occurred in April of 2011.
This Toronto Star article consists of a statement made by spokesperson Mark Pugash:
"We were served (Wednesday) and, while I can’t talk about this case, it is not at all unusual for claims made in lawsuits to fail to be proved."
It was interesting that Pugash decided to add in the "it is not at all unusual for claims made in lawsuits to FAIL to be proved".
Dear Pugash, it is in fact not unusual for police officers to participate in illegal activity, sexual assault, and assault on civilians to assert their authority and power.
If Keith Ryan's allegations are untrue, it is a shame, because others that file certain claims lose a little more credibility, just like sexual assault victims lose when other "victims" falsely accuse. If Ryan's story was made up for some money, would we be surprised? Probably not. People have done worse for money.
But if his allegations are true, would we be surprised that law enforcement committed violent acts? I doubt it.
The spokesperson certainly does his job in displacing blame way before the trials even begin. He certainly does his job to protect and serve... the police.
